CTBC is implementing a model known as the
Circle of Courage, developed by Dr. Larry Brendtro, Dr. Martin Brokenleg and Steve Van Bockern. These are four vales embodied
in the positive youth development process. The four values, which shape adolescent behavior, are as follows:
1.
Belonging – Teachers will create a belonging environment that nurtures positive peer attachments
through learning.
2.
Mastery – CTBC staff will promote the belief that students need to develop social, intellectual,
and academic competence if they are to become capable and responsible community citizens.
3.
Independence – Teachers will
help students gain personal independence and respect for themselves and other classmates by using a “Ropes and Challenges”
curriculum to broaden their abilities to respect each person’s independence, thereby developing their own.
4.
Generosity – All students are expected to participate in 20 hours of community service learning
each school year. Through this process of giving back to the community, students will gain a sense of self-worth and a greater
connection to society.
CTBC implements high accountability
standards that lead to academic success for its students.
